The Blue came but did not stay for long...

It's the next day of blue leaving me and my wife. He came for only 3 days and gave me immense pleasure to be called as his parent. I can't forget the time it's 11-Oct-2013 11.46PM when he was in my hand and I proudly said to everyone, "my son", the day to celebrate. Though he came early to my hand but he was healthy, happy and was playing. He had long fingers, big & sharp nose, nice eye lashes, lips, nice long hand and legs. The doctor said he is doing very good and looks handsome.

Next day I had to carry him for surgery as he had TE Fistula problem, which was been diagnosed in 7th month itself. I knew this before and took him to the room with confident, he was playing and ready to be operated. It went for couple of hours and was successful. He was doing well after that and kept on observation for next couple of days.

I was confident for my son, but God did not like that; he got breathing problem. Doctor, myself and my son fought for next 12 hours continuously and stabilized him. It was 2PM my eyes got closed for few minutes in tiredness. I talked to my son from my heart not to sleep to keep breathing stabilized but he failed to listen and went to sleep, for forever. I could not believe for first time. But I realized my son was new born, had to learn how to breath in sleeping in such critical time, got tired enough and could not survive. It was 14-Oct-2013 2.20AM (Dasshera).

The blue left me forever, keeping me in white. "Son, where ever you go, my ashirvad will remain with you. You know your mother is a great believer of GOD and always does wish for best for all and pray for all. Her ashirvad is with you for ever". We wish if we can hold you again in our hand and see you growing and playing till I survive. You are my Yashas, GOD will bless you again & again.

Time Out: Visit to Srivardhan, Diveagar, Harihareswar

Recently I went out for Konkan darshan with my family at Pune. I loved this weekend trip with my family, nice one. It was planned nicely after exploring a lot on Internet. The first day we traveled through Pune - Mulshi - Taminighat - Mangaon - Masala to Srivardhan where we had booked a resort. We went to resort directly after all our site seeing through the journey to get rid of the travel pain. The drive through Mulshi lake & Taminighat was amazing. The resort where we stayed for a day was also pretty good. In the evening we went to Harihareswar teample & beach. My family enjoyed a lot there, then we came back to resort. The resort was very close to Srivardhan beach, so during evening also we went there to chilled out. The beaches were nice, specially the Srivardhan one. Next day we checked out and went to Divaygar. In between we stopped by the famous Sri Ganesha Temple. Oh I forgot to tell one thing...near to our resort in Srivardhan there were small temples and Ashrams. It was a special experience of visiting such places on our leisure time. After Divyagar we drove back to city though we stopped at the Mulshi Dam for few minutes. Overall it was an excellent trip.

Got a different role to play...

I am now out of my current team and moved to a different one to play a different role in a different hierarchy which is different for me and I aspired for same. Wow this is something good for me. A complete new team, a complete new domain, no technology (though I hate it, but I won't leave it), no team, more of managerial work. Dealing with large stakeholders and only SLAs. Nice experience and I think it's good for me to go with this to certain extend before exploring something else in this line.

Two programs I watched on TV without missing...

I love to watch 2 programs on TV one is Dance India Dance & another is Satyamev Jayate. One that brings amazing talents to us and another who spread awareness about social issues but also brings some excellent people, I would say sons of GOD. I salute the people who brings such programs to us. I can feel the change coming to our society and also in our life.

Back with a challenge

Wow refreshing...it's been long time I have not been active in blogging. Today, I am back as something inspired me today to get me back to this blog site. Today we had an article writing competition where I contributed a little & then I thought about to write same on my blog. The article was all about the last difference I have made in my organization. I did not take much time to write as i have many things to write, but restricted to 800 words as per instruction. I mentioned about my goal which I got while joining current team & how successfully I capitalized the same. I added more to it by adding what I have done till now during my tenure of leading the team. Wow ...yes tenure... which is gradually coming to end probably as I am planning to move on to new role assignment. I am not prepared well but I want to jump into as I remember the conversation I had long back with my mentor. If I don't take risk then how will I do something different. Yes I want to do something different, want to come out of my comfort zone & do something which I believe I can do much better way. It will be learning for me & that will give me confidence to move faster & do something more. Not only for me but mostly for my team members and last not for the least the organization. Anyway ..let's wait & watch how I am going to get that opportunity where I can do something different, learn something new & do something for all. Please please wish me best of luck.

Powerful thoughts...

Strategy: We as a team have to work together to create our strategy. The strategy provides the North Star for each person. : Work within budget, on time, high quality release.
Structure: Creating a structure that enables collaboration and provides clarity of roles and responsibilities. This is more than an organizational structure; it is creating a system so people can work together effectively and productively, in an environment that makes it possible for each person to give their best.
People: Choosing the right people for each role is critical, but insufficient. Even more important is empowering every person to be their best, to work with others, to be as creative as possible. It’s about providing each and every person with encouragement when they’ve done something amazing and constructive feedback when they are off track.
Team: While each individual is important, success requires a team. The team is more important than the needs or capabilities of any individual. This is what makes a team much more than the sum of the parts, and a joy to be part of.
Results: Results are built when people act with integrity and deliver their best. Results are all about the positive impact we have on the world – transforming personal lives and revolutionizing ways of doing business.

A new role that brings lots of challenges

I got a new role in my current team. First impression from me was 'Cool', 'Exciting' like a red cap thinks and then 'Can I do it?' 'hell lot of work' like black cap and then 'good to manage team', 'do something for team/client' like yellow cap, then started dreaming about creativity like green cap and then started collecting info quickly like white cap but unable to think like a BLUE cap from all of these context. See I am thinking like a manager - "Six Thinking Hats", I am inspired. But does that cap can help me in people management where I have seniors and juniors to make them part of all initiatives and challenges we have in future path to achieve all goals that customer has set for us. IT'S TOUGH really really tough and challenging.

Then I kept calm and pray the God to help me. As I am not thinking about personal goals which I know I can achieve; this is team goal and getting it done with all helping hands or discouraging hands will show me my real talent. It's another EXAM, i am preparing for - School thinking, and that's the basic thinking. Do we have any name for this kind of management or I am a fool preparing for bad result?

Trip to mini Balaji temple, Narayanpur

Last to last weekend, I decided to take, off from my busy weekend schedule and give a small surprise to my wife. I know its been long time I could not take her on any trip. So thought to start will a small trip i.e. Trip to Balaji Temple at Narayanpur Village. It's around 50km from my house. Amazingly it turned to be a successful and nice trip, where we enjoyed the drive through the mountains, villages and over small bridges. The temple is a replica of actual Tirupati Balaji. Such a nice and peaceful place to enjoy. Enjoyed the 'prasad' and places all around the temple. Hope I could make such trips in all weekends :)

Effective work delegation

In my team from past couple of months I am seeing the current work delegation style does not work that effectively. It's a process fail for us. Though it's a leadership style to delegate the works among team but to make it effective we should choose right people and we himself should know better about the task before delegating same to another person. Choosing a wrong candidate will cost us a lot because the training process will be longer and the work may need continuous review from experts. I am not saying it's a problem with member or it's not good to train them about a task. But if that can be done in a better way then why not choose people those are interested in doing such task. As a leader instead of choosing just a person we should identify the talent. Choosing the right & interested person will continue the momentum and we can satisfy the member as well. More than that before delegation the leader should do that work in person to get to know in depth about the task, so that he/she can give a nice and effective picture to the member, then take feedback from them and more in advance plan for appreciation for same. But my bad we failed to do that..!!

Appreciation for members

I don't understand why a lead always prefer to appreciate a single person in a team. In my team I observed the lead is appreciating a few favorite people, due to which the over all team gets demotivated. We should be transparent and very much careful while typing an appreciation note for a member as without a very relevant reason we should not appreciate people. As in a team there are good, average and poor people use to be there but we can't ignore each and every performance as end of they team delivers the solution. We can't loose these people as we know we invest a lot to get them on track. If that is the case then we need to retain them through good appreciations or rating. Obviously rating is very important but as we know a institute can't give good rating to all and always. In that case these appreciations/gems known as indirect rating, are the only solutions. We need to appreciate or award those people for whom we can't sure about good rating as we middle manager better understand what is going to happen to their ratings. As we want to retain these average people, we should arrange some appreciations/awards for them. I am not saying we should not appreciate good people, we are not that stupid but think about how we can keep the good team spirit and retain those valuable people through these kind of quantitative appreciations and indirect ratings. I hope people will understand the organization issue instead of personal and personal goal.

Celebrating one year of my Love story

It’s been one year..!! Still I can remember each moment we celebrated and each moment I struggled to say I luv you to her. You know I could not proposed her while sitting with her on the dinner table in a nice big hotel for 3 hrs. I just kept telling nonsense stories and keep telling what I feel about her. She was smart,  could sense my soft corner towards her but she eagerly waited till the end of that lovely day to listen that magic words. But I was fool, could not tell that easily. But that day was nice to me as she also started loving more than I do. Yes, she loves me more than I do. I am so lucky. Now 25th July and its my Love anniversary. She is going to give me some surprise. Let’s go and see …what’s that. Stay tune..

Losing good resource

My team lost a good resource; a resource full of talent and dedication to the work. But we couldn't retain because we couldn't find ideal work for her and even rated badly for her dedication. I can't explain, how much helpless I was feeling at that time. I know, I am reacting little bit but nobody can stop me thinking about the wrong thing we do in IT. We could have retain her just by being little honest while rating and providing good work or encouraging her leading a group of technical people to do something different. A manager should plan for individual team members to avoid such organizational loss.

I hate micro management...

A real manager never do micro management unless he/she is selfish about his position or grow inside the organization. It's very bad for the organization directly or indirectly. Members suffer under his/her management and moral as well as quality of work culture goes down. Groups form and politics starts which is really bad for the members as well.Uhhh...I hate this and really become surprise about seeing such managers in a organization. They loose good people and responsible for the degradation of the quality of work in the organization. They take the shortcuts for the success and also motivate others to do that, in return they create a lot of issues inside the organization and people does not like them. I wish nobody get such manager in industry like IT.

Challenges in a leadership roal....

It's been 3yrs leading teams for different projects and still have a doubt. Whether should I work for client or work for building a real good team? I know everyone will say both, but in real scenario it does not happen. I have realized building a real good team can deliver much more to the client, so I always try to build the team first, bringing them into a level where we should discuss more about process improvement rather than project technical stuff. Everyone can learn technology but very rare people understand the business for which we are building the technology. The day team understands the real business requirement and it's impact, then they build the real product, which make real difference. A company should focus more on this to build real team and real lead, a lead who can be the father of his team and the real mentor. Wish I could be that lead..!!
