Back with a challenge

Wow refreshing...it's been long time I have not been active in blogging. Today, I am back as something inspired me today to get me back to this blog site. Today we had an article writing competition where I contributed a little & then I thought about to write same on my blog. The article was all about the last difference I have made in my organization. I did not take much time to write as i have many things to write, but restricted to 800 words as per instruction. I mentioned about my goal which I got while joining current team & how successfully I capitalized the same. I added more to it by adding what I have done till now during my tenure of leading the team. Wow ...yes tenure... which is gradually coming to end probably as I am planning to move on to new role assignment. I am not prepared well but I want to jump into as I remember the conversation I had long back with my mentor. If I don't take risk then how will I do something different. Yes I want to do something different, want to come out of my comfort zone & do something which I believe I can do much better way. It will be learning for me & that will give me confidence to move faster & do something more. Not only for me but mostly for my team members and last not for the least the organization. Anyway ..let's wait & watch how I am going to get that opportunity where I can do something different, learn something new & do something for all. Please please wish me best of luck.

Powerful thoughts...

Strategy: We as a team have to work together to create our strategy. The strategy provides the North Star for each person. : Work within budget, on time, high quality release.
Structure: Creating a structure that enables collaboration and provides clarity of roles and responsibilities. This is more than an organizational structure; it is creating a system so people can work together effectively and productively, in an environment that makes it possible for each person to give their best.
People: Choosing the right people for each role is critical, but insufficient. Even more important is empowering every person to be their best, to work with others, to be as creative as possible. It’s about providing each and every person with encouragement when they’ve done something amazing and constructive feedback when they are off track.
Team: While each individual is important, success requires a team. The team is more important than the needs or capabilities of any individual. This is what makes a team much more than the sum of the parts, and a joy to be part of.
Results: Results are built when people act with integrity and deliver their best. Results are all about the positive impact we have on the world – transforming personal lives and revolutionizing ways of doing business.

A new role that brings lots of challenges

I got a new role in my current team. First impression from me was 'Cool', 'Exciting' like a red cap thinks and then 'Can I do it?' 'hell lot of work' like black cap and then 'good to manage team', 'do something for team/client' like yellow cap, then started dreaming about creativity like green cap and then started collecting info quickly like white cap but unable to think like a BLUE cap from all of these context. See I am thinking like a manager - "Six Thinking Hats", I am inspired. But does that cap can help me in people management where I have seniors and juniors to make them part of all initiatives and challenges we have in future path to achieve all goals that customer has set for us. IT'S TOUGH really really tough and challenging.

Then I kept calm and pray the God to help me. As I am not thinking about personal goals which I know I can achieve; this is team goal and getting it done with all helping hands or discouraging hands will show me my real talent. It's another EXAM, i am preparing for - School thinking, and that's the basic thinking. Do we have any name for this kind of management or I am a fool preparing for bad result?

Trip to mini Balaji temple, Narayanpur

Last to last weekend, I decided to take, off from my busy weekend schedule and give a small surprise to my wife. I know its been long time I could not take her on any trip. So thought to start will a small trip i.e. Trip to Balaji Temple at Narayanpur Village. It's around 50km from my house. Amazingly it turned to be a successful and nice trip, where we enjoyed the drive through the mountains, villages and over small bridges. The temple is a replica of actual Tirupati Balaji. Such a nice and peaceful place to enjoy. Enjoyed the 'prasad' and places all around the temple. Hope I could make such trips in all weekends :)

Effective work delegation

In my team from past couple of months I am seeing the current work delegation style does not work that effectively. It's a process fail for us. Though it's a leadership style to delegate the works among team but to make it effective we should choose right people and we himself should know better about the task before delegating same to another person. Choosing a wrong candidate will cost us a lot because the training process will be longer and the work may need continuous review from experts. I am not saying it's a problem with member or it's not good to train them about a task. But if that can be done in a better way then why not choose people those are interested in doing such task. As a leader instead of choosing just a person we should identify the talent. Choosing the right & interested person will continue the momentum and we can satisfy the member as well. More than that before delegation the leader should do that work in person to get to know in depth about the task, so that he/she can give a nice and effective picture to the member, then take feedback from them and more in advance plan for appreciation for same. But my bad we failed to do that..!!

Appreciation for members

I don't understand why a lead always prefer to appreciate a single person in a team. In my team I observed the lead is appreciating a few favorite people, due to which the over all team gets demotivated. We should be transparent and very much careful while typing an appreciation note for a member as without a very relevant reason we should not appreciate people. As in a team there are good, average and poor people use to be there but we can't ignore each and every performance as end of they team delivers the solution. We can't loose these people as we know we invest a lot to get them on track. If that is the case then we need to retain them through good appreciations or rating. Obviously rating is very important but as we know a institute can't give good rating to all and always. In that case these appreciations/gems known as indirect rating, are the only solutions. We need to appreciate or award those people for whom we can't sure about good rating as we middle manager better understand what is going to happen to their ratings. As we want to retain these average people, we should arrange some appreciations/awards for them. I am not saying we should not appreciate good people, we are not that stupid but think about how we can keep the good team spirit and retain those valuable people through these kind of quantitative appreciations and indirect ratings. I hope people will understand the organization issue instead of personal and personal goal.
